Rembrandt: The Consummate Etcher at The Flint Institute |
FLINT, MI.- The Flint Institute of Arts presents the exhibit Rembrandt: The Consummate Etcher and Other 17th Century Printmakers through November 5. Rembrandt is generally considered one of the most important figures in western art history, in part, because of his virtuoso style, the wide range of subjects he included in his work, and his prolific output. And while it is his paintings that garner the most public attention, his etchings demonstrate the same genius, subject diversity, and vitality that he generated with a brush. This exhibition brings together the printed work of Rembrandt and sixteen of his contemporaries. The forty prints are arranged into thematic groups of landscape, genre, portraiture, and religious subjects so that visitors can discover the similarities and differences as well as the technical achievements of these talented individuals. This exhibition was organized by the Syracuse University Art Collection.
