AARHUS.- With over 565,000 visitors in 2024, ARoS has achieved impressive and highly satisfactory visitor numbers.
A comprehensive experience, eight exhibition openings, a wide range of events, debates, and talks, along with ARoS’ own collection, attracted 565,484 visitors to the museum throughout the year. In addition, another approximately 85,000 people used our free welcome area, enjoying an impressive architectural ARoS experience, bringing the total number of visitors to the art museum to 650,830 in 2024.
2024 marked ARoS’ 20th anniversary in the iconic building on Aros Allé. The anniversary was celebrated with two new exhibitions featuring works from the museum’s collection and a special presentation of the iconic sculpture Boy. In the anniversary year, Boy was accompanied by two other works by sculptor Ron Mueck: A Girl, a five-meter-long, highly detailed sculpture of a newborn baby, and Woman with Shopping, a smaller figure exploring motherhood and life.
"At a time when ARoS is undergoing a historic expansion, including the construction of our extraordinary ‘The Dome, a Skyspace by James Turrell’, we are in an incredibly exciting phase of development. Therefore, we are both proud and deeply grateful for the impressive number of visitors who have chosen to come together for art experiences at ARoS this year. It is truly inspiring to see how our guests continue to support us, even as we navigate these structural changes with reduced access," says museum director Rebecca Matthews.
The visitor numbers in 2024 are higher than last year and, for the first time, surpass the pre-COVID-19 levels.
Expectations for even more visitors in 2025
In 2025, ARoS expects to attract even more visitors with its most ambitious exhibition program to date. The 2025 program promises extraordinary art experiences with innovation, diversity, and audience engagement as core values. In addition, the expansion with the long-awaited The Dome, a Skyspace by James Turrell, and a new underground gallery dedicated to installation art will feature the opening of the largest Skyspace in a museum context and a unique exhibition space dedicated to new site-specific works created by visionary contemporary artists.
