| Fredrik Raddum: Home Sweet Home |

Fredrik Raddum (f. 1973), Home sweet home, 2006.

COPENHAGEN, DENMARK.- Statens Museum for Kunst presents Fredrik Raddum: Home Sweet Home, on view 28 October 2006 - 7 January 2007. The relationship between nature and man forms the pivotal point in Fredrik Raddum's art. In his installations, sculptures, and photographs as well as in his subtle, yet disturbing road signs placed in public spaces, his works address the collision course set between nature and culture, taking it to the furthest extreme. The clashes are violent, grotesque, and - most of all - deeply comical. For Raddum's art has no trace of Golden Age reverence for nature, nor of the fresh optimism of modern outdoor lifestyles. Insofar as any such references appear, their irony serves to emphasise how the concept of man's reunion with nature is as absurd as the pitch-black humour evident in the works.
Even though the images are recognisable, Raddum takes a consistently anti-naturalist approach. His style and choice of materials is often cartoonish or toylike. As if to accentuate that taking authenticity as an artistic objective is a dead end - or a manoeuvre as illusory as the belief that there is an "original" nature to which we can return.
HOME SWEET HOME - In the x-rummet at Statens Museum for Kunst Fredrik Raddum has created a wall-to-wall installation entitled HOME SWEET HOME. Audiences enter a carefully orchestrated, painstakingly cultured and utterly fabricated landscape where disaster has abruptly replaced idyll, if only for a while. Perhaps an example of nature's own kind of hard-hitting hubris?
About the artist - Fredrik Raddum is a graduate from the Academy of Fine Arts in Oslo. He has contributed to a wide range of exhibitions in Norway and abroad. His most recent project was the exhibition "DELIRIUM" at the Gallery Martin Asbæk Projects in Copenhagen, Denmark. The solo exhibition in x-rummet at Statens Museum for Kunst represents Fredrik Raddum's first at a Danish museum of art.
