BREST.- Setu is like a laboratory that promotes creativity by inviting and supporting artists to present performative works, live and in writing. «Setu» means «here it is, there you are» in Breton (pronounced «saytu» \ˈsetːy\). «Setu» is a work of the beginning and of the end, a term which literally presents and displays. «Setu» opens and rhythms an action, thereby highlighting the current moment of the representation. Setu is born from a desire to generate an encounter at the juncture of various different practices, scenes and generations of artists In order to construct together the Setu festival, which has taken place in late summer every year since 2016 at Elliant in south Finistère.

At the heart of the Setu company is a group of artists and writers regularly joined by teams of professionals and volunteers. This project has evolved over the years under the influence of a large number of artists who have worked with them. Three of these artists - Charlotte Beltzung (1989), Romain Bobichon (1988) and Pauline Lecerf (1993) - were invited to use the exhibition space alongside Setu, and offer works that echo the issues of living art, in action and in metamorphoses.

The ecosystem of the festival is embodied, as well as in the works, in a collection of materials and tools needed for the exhibition. These hybrid forms are so many elements of stories that can weave connections between what is happening at Passerelle and the story of Setu.

During the exhibition, there will be meetings with the public at Passerelle, when other artists and like-minded associations can be invited to take part in the movement. The festival teams will also occupy space in the art centre for collaborative work and contact with the public. These activities are intended to act as an expansion, sending out a tremor from the exhibition, celebrating the porous nature of Setu activities. They are a way of affirming the stance of a community that acts as artist, author and broadcaster all at the same time, and of unveiling time for creativity and for writing, which has inspired the association since its early days.

Charlotte Beltzung: Weaving Worlds Through Clay and Words

Charlotte Beltzung, born in 1989, is an artist who lives and works in Rennes, France. Her art is a fascinating dance between sculpture, writing, and performance. These elements aren't separate for her; they're deeply connected. Her approach is one of research, where she explores encounters with people, animals, and even the earth itself, sometimes blurring the lines between them.

Recently, she shared her work at the Setu festival in Finistère and collaborated with artist Camille Bondon on "The Great Dance and the Great Fire" for the opening of the Bien Urbain festival in Besançon. Currently, her attention is focused on a fictional project set over 100,000 years ago. She's writing about a group of humans searching for food and preparing their daily meals. This writing has sparked her interest in primitive cuisine, a subject that allows her to combine scientific discovery with imaginative exploration.

Romain Bobichon: Painting Landscapes of Human Connection

Romain Bobichon, born in 1988 in Saint-Vallier, France, now lives and works in Saint-Beauzile. His journey as an artist began at EESAB in Quimper and continued with residencies in Clermont-Ferrand and Lyon. In Lyon, he explored personal research alongside collective projects, delving into topics like institutional psychotherapy and multilingualism.

From 2016 to 2020, he collaborated with Virginie Barré and Julien Gorgeart on "La cascadeure," a multi-episode project shown in various exhibition spaces. This experience solidified his interest in collective storytelling and creating immersive atmospheres. He also organizes exhibitions with other artists, such as "Mélina Mélina" and "Les vases bleues."

Romain's work, rooted in painting, is influenced by the people, economies, and landscapes of his surroundings. He pays close attention to his daily environment and the context of his work, while also acknowledging his artistic influences. He is drawn to artists who work on a smaller scale, painters from all periods, artists who work outside traditional exhibition spaces, and music creators. This curiosity leads him to a form of deliberate distraction.

His work has been shown in various venues in France and abroad, including FRAC Pays de la Loire, Fondation d'entreprise Ricard, and the Biennale d'art contemporain de Lyon, among others.

Pauline Lecerf: Balancing the Absurd and the Heartfelt

Pauline Lecerf, born in 1993 in Paris, is an artist and comic book author now living and working in Belgium. She skillfully balances contrasting elements in her work: the unsettling and the comforting, the solitary and the communal, the art world and everyday life, and different forms of "stupidity."

She graduated from Head Strasbourg in 2016 and participated in a research program in Shanghai in 2018. She works across various mediums, including radio pieces, drawings, performances, and publications.

Through these mediums, she explores relationships of tension with poetry and humor. She also created "Fall yes, suffer no," a performance-course on techniques for falling safely.

Her first book, "TUT," uses humor and a touch of strangeness to depict the modern world. With a subtle, dark tone, she writes about everyday objects and the pursuit of happiness. Her ability to connect with readers through minimal means is a hallmark of her work. "TUT" also offers a humorous look at the art world and its inhabitants, challenging conventional ideas about artists.
