SYDNEY.- The Museum of Contemporary Art Australia (MCA Australia) in partnership with Create Space Arts and Faber Castell, is set to transform into a giant interactive canvas for The MCA Mega Draw, the city’s largest drawing event. Taking place on Saturday, March 15, 2025, this free all-day celebration of creativity invites people of all ages and abilities to immerse themselves in a sensory-friendly, collaborative art-making experience.

The MCA Mega Draw is designed by the MCA Australia and Create Space Arts A List Initiative to foster accessibility and inclusion in the arts for neurodiverse audiences. Visitors will explore drawing in all its forms across the museum, from the harbourside forecourt at Warrane (Circular Quay) to levels 1, 2 and 3. Attendees can contribute to large-scale community artworks, experiment with different materials and engage with professional and emerging Autistic artists.

Highlights of the day include:

• Giant Outdoor Chalk Zone – Create large-scale drawings in the MCA forecourt.

• Box city building – Use boxes of varying sizes to build personal and collective artworks

• Live Mural Making – Watch professional artists migrate murals up the stairwells and contribute to the evolving pieces.

• Mega Draw Makers – Learn more about artworks by neurodivergent identifying artists from The A List.

• Family Space: Drawn Together – experiment with different Faber-Castell drawing materials, surfaces and approaches

• Designated quiet area - A safe, sensory-friendly area mindful of noise

Suzanne Cotter, Director Museum of Contemporary Art Australia said, 'MCA Australia is committed to making art accessible to all. The MCA Mega Draw is just one of many inclusive events to be held at MCA Australia in 2025, providing opportunities to participants in engaging with contemporary art in innovative ways. We could not be happier to be collaborating with The A List in this inclusive event.’

Nicole Gamerov, Co-founder of The A List, said ‘The MCA Mega Draw is more than an event, it’s a step toward lasting inclusion in the arts. This is a unique collaboration that brings together diverse organisations like MyCarespace, The A List, Aspect and MCA Australia to create a legacy which embeds inclusive practices in mainstream cultural programming. We are not only welcoming neuro-divergent individuals but also changing how arts spaces engage with diverse communities. The MCA Mega Draw event ensures that creativity and the arts are accessible to everyone and showcases how the arts can be a catalyst for social change.’

The event will be accessible for all attendees. Visitors can participate in self-paced activities with clear instructions and enjoy flexible arrival times for drop-in activities. Staff and volunteers, trained in disability confidence by Aspect Autism Friendly, will be on hand to provide support, with priority assistance available for those wearing the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower Scheme lanyard.

The MCA Mega Draw is part of the Create Space Arts Initiative, funded by an ILC grant from the Australian Government Department of Social Services. The initiative is helping to transform Australia’s leading cultural venues into inclusive spaces for all. It is led by neuro-divergent professionals and guided by an Autistic Arts Advisory Board, ensuring that every aspect—from programming to facilitation—is designed with accessibility at its core.
