LONDON.- Colnaghi and Colnaghi Elliott announced their participation in The European Fine Art Fair (TEFAF), Maastricht, 2025. This year they will be exhibiting a selection of outstanding works in their field, including old master and 19th century paintings, sculpture and antiquities.

The striking old master paintings on display will include St. Jerome by Jusepe de Ribera (1591-1652), with sinewy flesh and a foreboding, hirsute lion both rendered with equal aplomb, and an arresting work by Guercino (born Giovanni Francesco Barbieri, 1591-1666) Saint Peter in Prison. The St. Jerome is a proud addition to Colnaghi's history with Ribera which includes the notable Tears of St Peter, an exquisite painting which Colnaghi's CEO Jorge Coll had the honour to source for the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York in 2012.
Also of note is an exquisite terracotta statue by Luisa Roldan (1652-1706), known as La Roldana: Virgin of the Immaculate Conception. Standing atop an ornate base, supported by putti, the Virgin emanates a contemplative serenity. Another statue by Felice Palma (1583-1625) of Christ carved from white marble is an elegant study of physical form, characterful expression and drapery. An early 19th century terracotta work by Jean-Antoine Houdon (1741-1828) of a charming greyhound, its elegant snout raised, provides an interesting, secular contrast.
The Inseparables by Emma Soyer (1813-1827) is another highlight of the stand; depicting a young boy in a pastoral setting nestled against a reclining donkey, it is a tender portrait executed with genuine sensitivity and charm.
Antiquities will include a statue of Narcissus, a Roman (Hadrianic c. 117-138 A.D.) figure of white marble, and an extremely rare Etruscan terracotta of the Head of a Veiled Woman (4th-early 3rd century B.C.), one of the finest and best preserved works of this nature from the civilisation that preceded Rome.
To mark the 250th anniversary of the birth of J. M. W. Turner (1775-1851), the dedicated master drawings gallery Colnaghi Elliott will be presenting three extraordinary works by Turner, including a gouache of the fortress town of Givet rediscovered in 2008, rendered in the soft, glowing tones that define Turner’s later easel work. Colnaghi Elliott will also be presenting an exceptionally limpid medallion portrait by Ingres (1780-1867) and a delightfully intricate Testa Fantastica by Ligozzi (1547-1627).
The European Fine Art Fair will run from 13-20 March 2025 at MECC, Forum 100, 6229 GV Maastricht, The Netherlands.
