Living the Living Heritage in Brussels
Preservation work in the temple city of Khajuraho.

BRUSSELS, BELGIUM.- The Centre for Fine Arts, Brussels, presents Living the Living Heritage, on view through January 21, 2007. Breathtakingly beautiful nature goes hand-in-hand with an abundance of cultural heritage. In order to offer an answer to an urgent need to protect Indian heritage, Indira Gandhi created the NGO "Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage" in 1984. INTACH works locally, with and for the local population. The exhibition highlights the work of INTACH in the temple city of Khajuraho, with a special attention on the Lost Gardens of Khajuraho, a project of INTACH Belgium.

The Palais des Beaux-Arts is staging a 15-week festival of Indian culture. The festival will have a host of special events, including five weekends packed with Indian music, dance and theatre. There will also be three large exhibitions that run the length of the festival. “Eternal Energy: 1,500 years of Indian art” (from October 17th) uses 150 objects to illuminate India’s myths and creation cycles. “Passages: Contemporary India” (from October 7th) will showcase work by the best Indian artists today, while “Living the Living Heritage” (from October 7th) will highlight preservation work in the temple city of Khajuraho).
