NEW YORK, NY.- Fine Art Donations announces the placement of a 1959 oil painting by the modernist Edward Zutrau into the collection of the Addison Gallery of American Art in Andover, MA. This donation marks the Addisons first acquisition of work by Zutrau, expanding the museums holdings in the area of 20th century abstraction. Fine Art Donations worked with the Zutrau estate to facilitate the donation, adding a new name to the list of museums where his paintings can be found.
Edward Zutraus career primarily took place in New York, where he studied at the Art Students League and exhibited work at institutions including The National Academy of Design and the Brooklyn Museum. He eventually gained representation by legendary art dealer Betty Parsons, and was included in her memorial exhibition alongside artists like Hedda Sterne and Richard Pousette-Dart. Zutraus work maintains a level of approachability sometimes absent in abstract art, combining form and hue to enliven his canvases with a spirit of imagination and playfulness. He spent a number of years in Japan during the 1950s and 60s; his time living there allowed for influence of Eastern aesthetics on his own style, an element that sets him apart from peers working in abstraction. The recent donation to The Addison a small, untitled painting from 1959 exemplifies the inspiration Zutrau drew from his Japanese surroundings.
Fine Art Donations launched last year as a brand new donations platform serving the art world. New York-based founders Jeffrey B. Gold, Douglas Gold, and Clanci Jo Conover draw on years of experience working with arts businesses and nonprofits to provide this unique solution to collectors, artist estates, and museums. Through the website, donors can list artwork they are interested in giving to a museum, and museums can browse available works with the option of accepting them into their collections.
