The Tanager Gallery, which operated from 1952 to 1962, was located in downtown Manhattan and known as one of the earliest artist cooperative galleries on 10th Street, offering an alternative to the larger Madison Avenue galleries. Over the 10 year period, they exhibited works from about 250 artists. At the time, 10th Street was a gathering place for young artist-bohemians.
