SYDNEY.- The Museum of Contemporary Art Australia (MCA Australia) is bringing unique art and dining experiences to the Museum for this year’s Vivid Sydney, between 23 May to 14 June 2025.

Western Aranda artist Vincent Namatjira’s King Dingo (2025) nightly projection is set to illuminate the MCA façade into a spectacular rock’n’roll experience. Featuring powerful symbols of First Nations strength, pride and resilience, this new commission for Vivid Sydney 2025 draws upon the artist’s series of paintings, King Dingo. The projection is accompanied by an original score created by Namatjira and Indulkana-based guitarist-composer Jeremy Whiskey.

MCA Australia will also hold an in-conversation event with the artist Vincent Namatjira and MCA Curator, First Nations Art, Rebecca Ray on Saturday 24 May 2025, from 4:30–6pm to discuss the making of the commission followed by a Q&A and a viewing of King Dingo.

The Museum is offering exclusive after-dark dining experiences in the MCA restaurant Canvas and on the Sculpture Terrace. Visitors will take in elevated panoramic views of Vivid Sydney’s light displays across the Harbour as they enjoy a three-course culinary menu, especially crafted to reflect the dynamic spirit of Vincent Namatjira's MCA projection and the colour of Vivid Sydney.

Before moving to Canvas for dinner or the Sculpture Terrace for drinks visitors can enjoy an intimate after-dark curator talk. On Friday 23 May and Friday 31 May, visitors can experience the work of Gordon Bennett and a communal presentation by Tiwi artists, key artists in the MCA Collection alongside a talk about the Tiwi artists by Rebecca Ray, MCA Curator, First Nations Art.

On Friday 6 June and Friday 13 June, visitors can experience monumental light sculptures in MCA’s major winter exhibition Cerith Wyn Evans …. in light of the visible alongside talks by Lara Strongman, Director of Curatorial and Digital, and Antares Wells, Assistant Curator.

Conceived as if the audience were strolling through a garden – long a source of inspiration for the artist – Cerith Wyn Evans …. in light of the visible opens on Friday 6 June and presents works incorporating sculpture, light, sound and installation. Monumental neon light sculptures will occupy the MCA’s double-height exhibition galleries, including Sydney Drift (2025) and F=O=U=N=T=A=I=N (2020), an architectural wall of white neon three metres tall and ten metres wide, which audiences are welcome to walk around and through. Vivid Sydney audiences can also experience the award-winning sculpture Composition for 37 Flutes (2018), in which 37 glass pipes 'inhale' and breathe sound into the gallery.
