SEOUL.- Hyundai Card presents David Salle: Under One Roof, an exhibition by acclaimed American postmodern artist David Salle, at Storage by Hyundai Card in Itaewon, Seoul. The exhibition will run until 7th September and feature approximately 40 works, including the South Korean debut of the Windows series, alongside early pieces and media installations.

A New York-based artist, David Salle is renowned for his unique painterly language that melds elements of pop culture, advertising, and art history. His works are characterized by intuitive yet meticulous compositions that create novel connections between familiar and unfamiliar subjects, encouraging viewers to engage deeply with each piece. Salle’s works are housed in prestigious institutions like the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York, Tate Modern in London, and the Centre Pompidou in Paris, marking him as a pivotal figure in contemporary art.

David Salle: Under One Roof offers a chronological journey, from the 1990s to the present. Beginning with early works from the 1990s and early 2000s, the exhibition moves through to the latest Windows series. This journey highlights Salle’s artistic evolution and values. As the title suggests, the exhibition symbolizes how his works are intertwined in form and meaning, coming together under a single conceptual roof.

Storage by Hyundai Card will transform into a space highlighting Salle’s imaginative and aesthetic vision. Both of his works Historical and Tree of Life sections, display Salle’s experimental approach across media, from Non-fungible Token (NFT) animations to AI-generated paintings. A standout work is Party of Animals, an NFT piece that reconfigures images from Salle’s 40-year career. Party of Animals encapsulates the artist’s long-standing exploration of imagery and narrative, reimagined through the language of the digital age.

The exhibition space will be configured as an immersive stage for Salle’s everyday yet theatrical imagination. Inspired by New York apartment windows, this space features the ‘Petit Théâtre (small theater)’ concept, using window frames as stages. Visitors are drawn into an intimate experience, as if peering into the private lives of New Yorkers, sparking curiosity about hidden narratives. Approximately six pieces from the Windows series were first unveiled during an artist talk at Hyundai Card’s DaVinci MOTEL event last September which has grown to 20 pieces in the official South Korean premiere of the Windows series.
