Selected Works by James Wyeth at the Farnsworth

ROCKLAND, ME.- The Farnsworth Art Museum and Wyeth Center presents the exhibit James Wyeth: Selected Works through April 22, 2007. This exhibition includes oils, watercolors and drawings both from the Farnsworth's permanent collection as well as special works on loan from private collectors.

The Farnsworth Art Museum offers a nationally recognized collection of American art in its elegantly appointed galleries. Such great names in 18th- and 19th-century American art history as Gilbert Stuart, Thomas Sully, Thomas Eakins, Eastman Johnson, Fitz Hugh Lane, Frank Benson, Childe Hassam, and Maurice Prendergast are represented in the museum's permanent collection entitled Maine in America.

The museum also houses the nation's second-largest collection of works by premier 20th-century sculptor Louise Nevelson and has opened four new galleries to showcase contemporary art. Its Wyeth Center exclusively features works of Andrew, N.C. and Jamie Wyeth--America's first family of art.

The Farnsworth's library is also housed in its Rockland, ME, campus. Two historic buildings--the Farnsworth Homestead and the Olson House--complete the museum complex.

The Wyeth Center is a remodeled 1870s church located immediately across the street from the main Farnsworth complex. The serene, contemplative galleries with detailing reminiscent of a Shaker meeting house provide 3,100 square feel of exhibition space on two levels.

The Wyeth Center provides a venue for viewing works by two generations of an American artistic dynasty--N.C. and Jamie Wyeth.
