BERLIN.- Berlin's Museum für Fotografie opens its doors today to "THE BERLINER SALON," a special group exhibition that ushers in Berlin Fashion Week. Running for just one week, until July 6, the unique presentation showcases the work of emerging German designers in a dynamic conversation with the museum's existing exhibitions of photography legends Helmut Newton and Rico Puhlmann.

This innovative exhibition, a collaboration between THE BERLINER SALON, the Kunstbibliothek – Staatliche Museen zu Berlin, and the Helmut Newton Foundation, offers young designers a prime platform to present their latest collections to an international audience.

A Curated Dialogue Between Eras

The curated designs, selected by Christiane Arp (Chairwoman of the Fashion Council Germany) and Marcus Kurz (Managing Director of Nowadays), were thoughtfully integrated with the museum's current photography shows. This thoughtful arrangement creates a "dialogue," drawing connections between contemporary fashion and iconic photography.

Visitors will find the new design pieces positioned alongside Helmut Newton's "Polaroids," which provide a rare glimpse into the influential photographer's creative process—using instant film as both preliminary sketches and tests for lighting and composition. In the adjacent Kaisersaal, "Rico Puhlmann. Fashion Photography 50s – 90s" explores Puhlmann's prolific career, from his beginnings as an illustrator to his rise as a fashion photographer for leading magazines, capturing the era's most sought-after models.

Fashion and Photography: A Shared Language

The interplay between these modern designs and the historical photographs of Puhlmann and Newton highlights the deep connections between fashion and photography as artistic mediums. Both disciplines, as demonstrated in the exhibition, explore fundamental aspects of representation, self-presentation, body image, and broader societal symbolism. "THE BERLINER SALON" at the Museum für Fotografie thus underscores how closely these artistic expressions are intertwined.
