MALAGA.- The Picasso Museum Málaga (MPM) and the la Caixa Foundation have renewed their longstanding collaboration with a new agreement aimed at expanding access to culture and promoting social inclusion through the arts. The partnership, formalized this week by Bernard Ruiz-Picasso, president of the MPM Executive Council, and Juan Carlos Barroso, territorial head of the la Caixa Foundation in Andalusia, Ceuta, and Melilla, reaffirms a shared commitment to fostering inclusion through artistic engagement.
As part of the agreement, the la Caixa Foundation will allocate 50,000 to support the museums cultural and social programs, particularly the Picasso Total Social Participation Program, which targets individuals with functional diversity and those in vulnerable social situations.
Art and Inclusion: A Shared Mission
This collaboration deepens the museums focus on accessibility and community outreach. With the Picasso Museum of Málaga, we are united by a social and cultural commitment that is embodied in a common goal: to facilitate access to culture for the greatest number of people, especially for those who are in a situation of vulnerability, said Barroso during the signing ceremony.
Miguel López-Remiro, artistic director of MPM, echoed this vision: The renewal of this agreement with the la Caixa Foundation allows for the continuity of work that we consider essential: bringing art and culture closer to broad and diverse groups and individuals. At the Picasso Museum Málaga, we understand that a museum must be... a useful tool for society.
Spotlight on Pablo Picasso: Structures of Invention
The renewed agreement comes at a pivotal time for the museum, which is currently hosting the landmark exhibition Pablo Picasso: Structures of Invention. The Unity of a Work. Running until January 2028, the exhibition brings together 150 artworks that showcase the painters visionary approach to form and structure.
The Picasso Total Social Participation Program is closely tied to this exhibition, offering an inclusive educational framework designed to engage diverse audiences. Among the standout initiatives is Mira más (Look Further), a program for high school students that fosters critical thinking and socio-emotional development through art.
Training opportunities have also been expanded, with tailored courses for teachers, tourism professionals, and the general public, promoting deeper engagement with Picassos legacy.
Accessibility at the Forefront
In alignment with International Day of Persons with Disabilities, MPM will once again host Accessibility Week this December. As part of its ongoing Accessibility 2025 Program, the museum will organize the XIV Seminar on Art and Social Participation, reflecting its dedication to research and innovation in accessibility practices.
For over a decade, the Picasso Museum Málaga has led pioneering efforts in using art as a vehicle for social inclusion. Its programs have reached communities ranging from blind and hearing-impaired individuals to groups traditionally distant from institutional cultural spaces.
A Long-Term Commitment
The renewed partnership strengthens a relationship built on mutual values: social impact, cultural access, and educational outreach. The la Caixa Foundation continues to invest in programs that reduce inequality and improve lives through cultural initiatives. The Picasso Museum Málaga, in turn, reaffirms its mission of being a dynamic, inclusive institution serving as a bridge between art and society.
