LODZ.- The Muzeum Sztuki in Łódź, one of the oldest modern art museums in the world, enters a new chapter in its nearly century-long history. In July 2025, the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage of the Republic of Poland officially appointed Daniel Muzyczuk as Director of the institution, following a unanimous recommendation by the selection committee.

Muzyczuk, a curator and art historian, has been affiliated with the museum since 2011. He served as Chief Curator from 2015. Over the years, he has significantly contributed to shaping the museum’s international profile, curatorial direction, and critical engagement with contemporary art. As Director, Muzyczuk aims to reaffirm the museum’s role as a space of critical engagement, experimentation, and solidarity, building on the legacy of the a.r. group and the international avant-garde. He envisions the museum as a “place of research and friction,” where collections, exhibitions, and educational practices are approached as tools for generating new knowledge and fostering inclusive public discourse.

He also plans a structural expansion of Muzeum Sztuki in Łódź, including the creation of new exhibition and storage spaces that would respond to the limitations of the current buildings and accommodate future growth. In his words, “We must understand the museum as both a public institution and an artistic instrument—a space where critical reflection and radical imagination converge.”

Founded in 1930, the Muzeum Sztuki in Łódź is one of the oldest museums of modern art in the world. With a unique collection of 20th- and 21st-century art rooted in the avant-garde tradition, MSŁ continues to explore the role of art in shaping both contemporary experience and historical consciousness.
