LONG ISLAND CITY, NY.- The essence of Isamu Noguchi’s design aesthetic can be found at The Noguchi Museum Store. The Store, which stocks a carefully selected assortment of design objects, an eclectic selection of books, and unusual gifts reflecting Noguchi’s tastes and interests, is a superb destination for holiday shopping. It is the only place in the world that offers the full line of the artist’s famous and highly desired Akari Light Sculptures, popularly known as “Noguchi lamps.” Tucked in a light-filled corner on the ground floor of the Museum, the shop, which also houses a café, is a modern art-lovers’ paradise, modeled on the enduring spirit of Noguchi’s protean imagination. For late-night shoppers and others, the Noguchi Museum Store website offers the full array of products online: www.noguchi.org.

Coming in 2007 - In conjunction with the special exhibition Design: Isamu Kenmochi and Isamu Noguchi, to be held at the Museum from September 2007 to March 2008, the Museum shop will be the only shop to carry a specially reissued version of Isamu Kenmochi’s famous rattan chair, Round Chair C-315-O (1959). Round Chair won the 1966 Good Design Award in Japan. It is in the collection of The Museum of Modern Art, New York, and the Tokyo National Museum of Modern Art.

In addition, the Shop is planning to reissue Noguchi’s Bamboo Chair (1950) in a limited edition. Noguchi designed the chair with Kenmochi’s assistance at the Industrial Arts Research Institute, in Tokyo. The chair’s back and seat were woven in the manner of traditional bamboo baskets (zaru). Beginning February 2007, the Store will offer its first silk scarf. Based on the artist’s abstract design for a theater curtain, the boldly colored scarf contains royal blue, red, and two shades of green and yellow.
