PARIS.- For the past several years, Christie's Paris has been multiplying its projects and collaborations with leading figures from the French contemporary art scene. Following its 2024 partnership with Felice Varini during the third edition of Art Basel Paris, the auction house continues its commitment to contemporary creation. This October, to coincide with Paris Art Week, Christie's has invited French artist Stéphane Thidet to transform the façade of its Paris headquarters at 9 avenue Matignon.

Facing the Grand Palais, at the entrance to an avenue that has become a true epicentre of the Parisian art world, Thidet will unveil a brand-new work, created specifically for this iconic location. True to his site-specific approach, the artist promises striking visual intervention—both poetic and enigmatic.

Christie's has occupied the building at 9 avenue Matignon since 2001. Designed by architect René Sergent—renowned for the Nissim de Camondo Museum and several galleries at the Guimet Museum—he also created prestigious buildings in the US, Argentina, and the UK, including the Rolls Royce headquarters. Overlooking the Champs-Élysées gardens and the Grand Palais, the elegant façade he designed in 1914 marked the success of the Callot Soeurs fashion house, of which actress Isabelle Huppert is a descendant.

Stéphane Thidet's work will be unveiled on Monday 13 October 2025 and remain on view until Sunday 11 January 2026, offering passers-by and art lovers a unique experience in the heart of the Matignon district.

A prominent figure on both the French and international art scenes, Stéphane Thidet is represented in France by Galerie Aline Vidal. Since curating Guet-apens in 2006, he has exhibited at the Conciergerie in Paris, La Maréchalerie in Versailles, and the Villa Medici in Rome. In 2025, his iconic work Refuge is being shown at the Voorlinden Museum near The Hague in the Netherlands. According to Farhad Kazemi, curator at the Louvre and organiser of the exhibition Gardens and Palaces of the Orient, Thidet “always creates powerful works that require no explanation. They speak directly to the senses and the imagination yet always carry a strong message.” Inspired by nature and its paradoxes, Thidet draws from sources as diverse as Lewis Carroll and Henry David Thoreau. His world, imbued with mystery and simplicity, evokes the wonder of childhood.

Finally, on Monday 20 October 2025, the Matignon Saint-Honoré Association will officially launch Paris Art Week with a major evening event, bringing together all its members—including several galleries and Christie's—for the second year running.
