HONG KONG.- Christie's announced the lineup for its Hong Kong 20th/21st Century Autumn Auctions, which brings together an outstanding selection of works by some of the world's most important artists. Taking place live at Christie's saleroom at The Henderson in Hong Kong, the auctions begin on 26 September with the 20th/21st Century Evening Sale, followed by the 20th Century Day Sale and the 21st Century Day Sale on 27 September. The breadth of artistry offered is underpinned by quality, responding to the demand for works by renowned masters and visionaries of today. The sales also attest to the desirability of rare acquisition opportunities, with many of the works entrusted to Christie's fresh to market or unseen at auction for decades.

Headlining the Evening Sale are masterpieces by two titans of Modern art – Pablo Picasso's Buste de femme, an arresting portrait of his most influential muse, Dora Maar, in private hands for over 25 years, and Zao Wou-Ki's fiery Hurricane Period 17.3.63 which is offered at auction for the very first time. The sale is further highlighted by David Hockney's Table with Conversation, presented following his blockbuster retrospective at Fondation Louis Vuitton, Paris – this vibrant painting invites us into a multi-perspective space, converging the indoors with an abstracted panoramic vista. Also amongst the offerings is Impressionist master Claude Monet's Printemps à Giverny, effet d'après-midi depicting springtime in Giverny – the place that was his core artistic inspiration; Picasso's Nu assis appuyé sur des coussins from his great late period, portraying his wife Jacqueline in a classical reclined pose recalling Titian, Velázquez, and the odalisques of Ingres and Delacroix; alongside rare examples by Walter Spies and Yayoi Kusama.

Diverse and global in scope, the Day Sales span artistic movements that defined the 20th and 21st centuries. The 20th Century Day Sale is led by another vibrant David Hockney from his highly significant 'Very New Paintings' series which encompasses just 26 works, alongside lyrical paintings by visionary Asian Modernists including Kazuo Shiraga, Zao Wou-Ki, and Chu Teh-Chun. Placed in dialogue with these is a landscape by J.M.W. Turner – the eminent British Romanticist who inspired both Zao Wou-Ki and Chu Teh-Chun, presented at auction for the first time in Asia as the art world celebrates his 250th birthday. The 21st Century Day Sale adds to the season's stunning selection of works by Yayoi Kusma encompassing both paintings and sculptures, and includes amongst its many highlights a captivating painting by George Condo, which exemplifies his signature 'Artificial Realism' style.
