Auction brings global history to the forefront with rare masterpieces

BOULDER, COLO.- An extraordinary event hosted by Artemis Fine Arts will transport bidders across centuries of history with the “Treasures Across Time: Classical, Ancient, and Ethnographic Art Auction.” Opening on October 2, 2025, at 8:00 AM GMT-6 in Louisville, Colorado, the sale showcases rare treasures from ancient civilizations to fine art. Each piece is legally sourced, backed by guaranteed authenticity, and supported with seamless in-house shipping.

A Glimpse into Toltec Power

Toltec Warrior or Deity Head in Volcanic Stone. Estimate: $4,000 - $6,000

One of the standout pieces is a Toltec Warrior or Deity Head in volcanic stone, dating from ca. 900 to 1200 CE. Estimated at $4,000 to $6,000, this rare relic from southern Mexico captures the strength of Toltec artistry. The carved head, with its stern expression, incised teeth, and elaborate headdress, is believed to have adorned ceremonial architecture, projecting the authority of warriors and deities at centers such as Tula. Weathered yet powerful, the stone head remains a vivid reminder of the Toltec influence that would shape Aztec iconography for centuries.

Gordon Coutts’ Elegance in Oil

Gordon Coutts Painting - Two Tethered Horses. Estimate: $5,500 - $8,250

Another highlight is Gordon Coutts’ “Two Tethered Horses”, a luminous oil painting estimated at $5,500 to $8,250. Coutts, a Scottish-born painter whose career spanned Europe, Australia, and the Americas, became known for his evocative landscapes and Orientalist scenes. This canvas captures two horses standing before a Spanish-style colonnade, bathed in the glow of lamplight and sunset. With its exquisite use of color and light, the painting recalls a similar work sold in 2013 for $33,000, underlining Coutts’ enduring appeal among collectors.

Burmese Buddha of Majesty

From Southeast Asia comes a breathtaking Burmese Enthroned Jambupati Buddha with Naga Back Panel, crafted in the late 19th to early 20th century. Estimated between $4,500 and $6,750, the gilded wooden figure depicts the Buddha in bhumisparsha mudra, symbolizing enlightenment. Seated before a dramatic back panel carved with nagas and crowned with a spire finial, the piece embodies the tale of King Jambupati—an arrogant ruler humbled before the Buddha’s grandeur. With inlaid eyes and ornate regalia, the sculpture radiates both spiritual and artistic majesty.

The Music and Gold of the Sinu

Sinu Tumbaga Pendant & 11 Zoomorphic Pottery Whistles. Estimate $3,600-$5,400

The auction also features a remarkable Sinu tumbaga pendant paired with eleven zoomorphic whistles from Colombia, dating ca. 500 to 900 CE. Valued at $3,600 to $5,400, the central pendant, made from a gold-copper alloy, shows a stylized figure with elaborate headdress and spiral motifs. Surrounding it are miniature animal-shaped whistles, recalling the ceremonial life and musical traditions of the Sinu people. Together, they form a unique ensemble that highlights the artistry and symbolism of pre-Columbian Colombia.

A Celebration of World Cultures

From ancient Mesoamerica to colonial artistry and Southeast Asian spirituality, this auction represents a rare convergence of world cultures. Each piece has been carefully vetted, legally acquired, and offered with the assurance of seamless shipping and buyer satisfaction.

Collectors eager to own a tangible piece of history can participate beginning October 2, 2025, with treasures that span continents and centuries—each waiting for its next custodian.
