BERLIN.- Fotografiska Berlin’s exhibition White Nights in Wonderland invites visitors to experience the spectacle of contemporary society in all its surreal, subtle, and visceral detail as seen through the lens of Feng Li. Celebrated internationally – from Paris to Tokyo, from Shanghai to his hometown of Chengdu – Feng Li has cultivated a distinctive visual language that has earned him a richly deserved reputation in both street photography and fashion. Set against the surreal backdrop of global cities, his colourful tableaux materialise fleeting, enigmatic moments and capture the quotidian absurdities in the bright light of a flash, blurring night and day.

Curated by international photography specialist Holly Roussell, Feng Li: White Nights in Wonderland at Fotografiska Berlin showcases around 150 photographs taken over the past two decades. The exhibition brings together some of Feng Li’s most iconic works alongside a selection of images that have never been shown in Berlin before – offering fresh perspectives on his evolving practice and visual approach.
„In a society overwhelmed by constant image-making, Feng Li’s photographs stand out for their ability to uncover the surreal truths hidden in plain sight. With a sharp eye for irony and the poetic potential of colour, he draws meaning from even the most unassuming details.“, Holly Roussell, curator.

His photographs expose the theatre that unfolds unnoticed in the streets of Chengdu, Paris, Tokyo, Shanghai, and Berlin. „Feng Li’s photographs present the world in a new way, with his singular approach to revealing what is special in the mundane,“ states Jessica Jarl, Global Director of Exhibitions at Fotografiska. Each of Feng Li’s images invites the viewer to look anew, unravel enigmas, and create their own stories – an approach that resonates perfectly with Fotografiska’s mission: to connect cultures and inspire curiosity.

Born 1971 in Chengdu (Sichuan), Feng Li’s distinctive language has made him one of the most compelling voices in contemporary Chinese photography. His accolades span from the Best Photographer Prize at the 2012 Jinan International Photo Biennale and the Grand Jury Prize at the 2012 Lianzhou Photo Festival to the Discovery Award at the 2017 Jimei × Arles International Photography Festival in Xiamen. Editorial commissions for Vogue and FAZ sit alongside collaborations with brands like Louis Vuitton, underscoring Feng Li’s versatility across both media and high fashion.

The exhibition is curated by Holly Roussell, art historian, museologist, and curator for the UCCA Center for Contemporary Art, Beijing, on behalf of Fotografiska, and coordinated by Marie-Luise Mayer, Exhibitions Manager at Fotografiska Berlin.
