National Museums Liverpool welcomes Andrea Nixon MBE as the new Chair of the Board.

LIVERPOOL.- It has been announced that the Secretary of State for Culture, Media & Sport has appointed Andrea for a term of four years. She is the first woman to Chair the Board at National Museums Liverpool.

A highly-experienced director and cultural consultant, Andrea has a significant track record in change management, place development, partnership programming, business development and fundraising in the culture and heritage sector. She has co-developed cultural strategies for places ranging from Middlesborough to Neath Port Talbot and worked with a wide range of museums, galleries and collections round the country to develop their vision and sustainable operations, including the National Trust and the Arts Council Collection.

Andrea said: “I am absolutely delighted to be joining the amazing team and board at National Museums Liverpool at such an exciting time for the organisation. I have loved visiting and engaging with all National Museums Liverpool's sites over the years and am in awe of its incredible collections, outstanding community ventures and international position in the museum world. I look forward to supporting NML in the future in every way I can.”

Laura Pye, Director of National Museums Liverpool, added: "I and the rest of the Leadership team are looking forward to working with Andrea in her new role as Chair. Andrea is well-known in the Liverpool cultural scene and brings a wide range of skill and experience which I am sure will bring huge benefit to National Museums Liverpool. We are at an exciting moment in our journey with the plans for the Waterfront and beyond and we are delighted to have Andrea joining us.”

Prior to establishing her own consultancy in 2018, Andrea was Executive Director of Tate Liverpool, where she led the management and development of the gallery. She worked as Director of Development for the Tate in London from 1998 to 2006, playing a key role in the creation of both Tate Modern and Tate Britain. As a volunteer trustee, she has experience at Arts Council North, the Crafts Council and The Audience Agency and chaired the V&A Dundee Advisory Board from 2015 to 2020. She is currently chair of the Liverpool Everyman and Playhouse Theatres (retiring November 2025), a Trustee of Harewood House Trust and a Director of The Reader CIC. Andrea was awarded an MBE for services to the arts in 2019. She lives in Liverpool with her family.
