NEW YORK, NY.- The general public is invited to visit the Bronx Post Office at 558 Grand Concourse on Saturday, October 18, and Sunday, October 19, 2025, as part of the citywide Open House New York Weekend, an annual festival that unlocks 300 destinations across the five boroughs for behind-the-scenes tours and special activities.
During OHNY Weekend, guests can explore the landmarked lobby, learn about the buildings history as a central postal hub, and hear about its next chapter. A panel discussion on the building's architecture, art, and significance will take place on Saturday afternoon; details to be announced. The building will be open each day from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
BPO Owners LLC, the buildings current steward, is committed to preserving its historic and cultural legacy while planning for a future that keeps this space active and connected to the Bronx community.
We are proud to serve as a steward for this historic building, a true Bronx landmark and a place that has meant so much to the people of this borough for nearly 90 years, said Jorge Madruga, Principal of BPO Owners LLC. We look forward to taking part in Open House New York Weekend and welcoming New Yorkers to the Bronx Post Office to enjoy the murals and architecture and learn more about this historic structure.
As we celebrate Open House New York Weekend, we are excited to host this opportunity for residents and visitors to our borough to explore the historic Bronx Post Office. This event reminds us of the importance of honoring our architectural treasures while ensuring they continue to serve our communities, said Bronx Borough President Vanessa L. Gibson. And with the reimagining of the Post Office into a hub of exploration, discovery, and learning, we are breathing new life into this space that will serve future generations of Bronx scholars. I want to thank BPO Owners and Open House New York for their partnership on this event and commitment to highlighting and supporting our Bronx treasures.
The Bronx Post Office at 558 Grand Concourse is a landmark civic building completed in 1937 by architect Thomas Harlan Ellett. Its restrained classical design features monumental arched windows, granite terraces, and symbolic sculptures at the main entrance.
Inside, visitors will see thirteen New Dealera murals painted in 1939 by Ben Shahn and Bernarda Bryson. These vivid works, inspired by Walt Whitmans poetry, celebrate American workers and remain one of the Bronxs most important public art collections.
