Athenthicity of Velázquez Work On Doubt |
Infanta Margarita by Velázquez.
ATLANTA.-Art specialists stated that the Infanta Margarita painting on loan to the High Museum from the Louvre in France is not a work by Velázquez. The Louvre defends the authenticity of the work, and states it was painted by Velázquez in 1653 on the orders of Felipe IV. They say the painting arrived in France in 1654 and spent more than 100 years on the Queen of Frances wall.
The «Libération» newspaper published the answer given by the administrator of the Louvre Museum that defends the authenticity of the Velázquez work. He states that the work is recognized as an original and it is exhibited as an original.
According to other art experts, this work is no longer in the catalogues of authenthic works by Velázquez.
