SANTA FE.- The Museum of Fine Arts opened the exhibit Constellations through February 11, 2007. Human civilizations have always looked to the stars for geographical and existential navigation, and considered celestial bodies a basis for cultural practices and scientific inquiry. New Mexico´s unobstructed views of the skies, both day and night, are likewise a source of inspiration for contemporary artists.
In Constellation, three New Mexico artists explore light, constellations and patterns in nature. In some cases this exploration is literal, drawing on astronomical imagery; in other cases a constellation serves as a conceptual framework for artists to investigate the idea of organizing light and matter in space through the language of abstraction. Featuring the work of Erika Blumenfeld, Constance DeJong and Jennifer Joseph.
