NEW YORK, NY.- The unequivocal momentum and energy of Monday evening at Christie's New York fueled back-to-back Day Sales on Tuesday, November 18, 2025 with the Impressionist and Modern Works on Paper in the morning, followed by the Impressionist and Modern Art Day Sale in the afternoon. The sales were foregrounded by a number of esteemed collections, including the collection of Robert F. and Patricia G. Ross Weis, the collection of Carol and Terry Wall, the collection of Arnold and Joan Saltzman, Property from the Kawamura Memorial DIC Museum, the collection of Max and Cecile Draime and more. In total, the two sales achieved $56.5 million, bringing the running total for the week to $746.3 million.

Margaux Morel, Head of the Impressionist and Modern Art Day Sale and Works on Paper Sale, remarks, “The energy of our sale today was a true demonstration of the strength and vibrance of the market for works of high quality with esteemed provenance. Throughout both our morning and afternoon sessions, we saw eager and enthusiastic bidders vying for works by the most important artists of the twentieth century, and we were thrilled with the successful outcome.”

The first sale opened up to a packed saleroom and experienced spirited and lively bidding throughout its duration. In total, the sale achieved $10,112,375, selling 84% by lot and 82% by value. The top lot of the sale was Danseuses sur la scène by Edgar Degas offered from the Family of Robert Treat Paine II which exceeded its high estimate to sell for $1,143,000. This was closely followed by Personnage, oiseau, étoiles by Joan Miró which sold for $914,400 and Remedios Varo's Caballero encantado which achieved $762,000. The sale saw success for artists of all backgrounds, with works by important American artists such as Andrew Wyeth alongside the most important icons of Latin American art—including both Varo and Frida Kahlo. The appetite for John Singer Sargent remained strong, with Trees, an exemplary work by the artist, selling for $330,200, more than eight times its high estimate.

The Impressionist and Modern Art Day Sale followed at 11:30am, realizing a total of $46,351,557, 88% sold by lot and 90% sold by value. The top lot of the sale was The Flower Seller by Childe Hassam from the collection of Carol and Terry Wall, which exceeded expectations to sell for $2,149,000. The second highest price in the sale was achieved by a work from the collection of Arnold and Joan Saltzman—Portrait de Jean Metzinger by Robert Delauney which sold for $2,027,000. Another example from the Saltzman collection, La chanteuse mélancolique by Joan Miró, surpassed its high estimate to sell for $1,905,000, establishing the third highest price in the sale. A number of works within the sale established prices above the $1 million mark, including a work by Edvard Munch and an exceptional portrait of a young girl by Tamara de Lempicka.
