MIAMI, FLA.- This Miami Art Week, HistoryMiami Museum invites visitors to experience Miami through three powerful exhibitions that explore migration, culture, and community: Belonging in Transit, Yakne Seminoli / Seminole World, and Nail Art: A Cultural Expression. Together, these shows transform the Museum into an essential Basel week destination where the city’s many voices and creative traditions converge.



Belonging in Transit is a deeply personal photographic project by Miami based artist Carlos Muñoz. Set in the Redland, a vibrant hub where migrant families from around the world intersect, the series reflects not only the community’s daily lives but also Muñoz’s own experiences as a migrant. His images capture the challenges and resilience of life in motion—the moments of separation, the quiet strength, and the enduring search for home. Rather than simply documenting, Muñoz conveys the emotional landscape of migration, showing belonging as an ongoing, lived process. During Art Basel week, the Museum will host a special conversation with Muñoz and curators Lucía Marcano and Roberto Mata, giving audiences insight into the experiences, relationships, and stories that shaped this moving project on December 4 at 6 p.m. Tickets are complimentary.



Alongside Muñoz’s work, the Museum is hosting Yakne Seminoli / Seminole World, a vibrant collaboration between the Museum and the Ah Thah Thi Ki Museum celebrating the enduring creativity and cultural legacy of the Seminole people. More than 25 Seminole artists work across textiles, digital media, carved forms, and painting to show how Seminole traditions have adapted, survived and continue to thrive—while shaping the Florida we know today.



Rounding out the Museum’s Art Basel offerings is Nail Art: A Cultural Expression, opening December 5 and celebrating the groundbreaking work of internationally acclaimed nail artist Kro Vargas. Vargas, whose multidimensional designs have appeared on the hands of Ivy Queen, Rosalía, and Ice Spice, elevates nail art from a fashion moment into a storytelling medium rooted in community, ritual, and innovation. The exhibition traces her journey from her first design board on Calle Ocho to the globally recognized sets she has created, including pieces made exclusively for the show. During Basel week, the Museum will host a special program with the Full Set Project, featuring a screening of the documentary Nail Tech: Portrait of an Artist, followed by a conversation with filmmakers and Vargas. The screening will take place December 6 from 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm. Tickets are free with Museum admission.
