COLUMBIA, SC.- McKissick Museum at the College of Art and Sciences at the University of South Carolina presents its Biennial USC Department of Art Faculty Exhibition through April 7. McKissick Museum is proud to again host the USC Department of Art Faculty Exhibition. This biennial offering presents the University community and the public with a sampling of work created by art faculty over the past two years. The exhibition is an opportunity to view the work of professors who instruct the undergraduate and graduate art students. Expect to see a wide range of mediums including painting, photography, sculpture, ceramics, printmaking, digital arts, computer graphics presentations, textiles, drawings, and film presentations.
The Department of Art at the University of South Carolina boasts an 85,000 -square-foot facility designed specifically for the study and creation of the visual and media arts. Faculty members possess national and international reputations in their areas of expertise and are a cohesive group of cutting-edge professionals who have dedicated their lives to art and teaching.
The curriculum includes four major artistic disciplines: art education, art history, art studio, and media arts. Within studio and media arts, students can specialize in everything from drawing and painting to graphic design and new media, from ceramics and printmaking to photography or film and video, and from sculpture to audio and television production at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.
The art education programs graduate most of South Carolina's K-12 art teachers. In fact, over the past 25 years the art education faculty and graduates have won every major award given by the National Art Education Association. Two graduates have served as President of the NAEA.
The department's art history undergraduate and graduate degrees allow for specialization in Renaissance, Baroque, 18th- 19th- and 20th- century, and American art and architecture, as well as film and photographic history. In addition, surveys and special-topics courses in art history are offered on a regular basis.
The University of South Carolina Department of Art is a well-rounded department that enjoys the support of University decision makers. It is positioned to further develop its reputation and increase its presence as a first-tier institution for the study of art.
