NEW YORK, NY.- Jeanne Greenberg Rohatyn, founder of Salon 94, announces the appointment of Alissa Friedman as Senior Director, effective immediately. Friedman's return to Salon 94 comes at a moment of renewed growth for the gallery, which is known for its innovative exhibitions across established and emerging artists, rediscovered voices, craft-based practices, and world-class design. Friedman previously served Salon 94 from 2007 to 2022, ultimately as Partner C Senior Director.

Bringing more than 30 years of leadership across galleries, institutions, and artist-driven initiatives, Friedman offers unparalleled expertise to her renewed role at Salon 94. As Senior Director, she will oversee the gallery’s art and design programs, artist relations, exhibitions, global sales strategy, and strategic institutional and commercial partnerships—furthering Salon 94’s mission to present groundbreaking design, pioneering contemporary art, and works from underrecognized and craft-based fields. “We are thrilled to welcome Alissa back,” said Greenberg Rohatyn. “Her team leadership, management, and enduring dedication to artists remained an essential part of Salon 94. She has continued to share the confidence of many artists in the community, and rejoins with her curatorial eye to develop voices from beyond.”

During her tenure, Friedman worked closely with Greenberg Rohatyn to transform Salon 94 from a single venue into a multi-location leader known for inventive programming, major public commissions, and significant contributions to the art and design landscape. She collaborated with a diverse array of artists—including indigenous Australian artists, Huma Bhabha, Lorna Simpson, and Betty Woodman—championing voices across varied practices and geographies. Beyond her work with gallery artists, Friedman also directed a major initiative to acquire art for six New York–Presbyterian Hospital sites—several of them ground-up buildings— where she facilitated the placement of more than 6,000 artworks throughout the institution. Notably, she oversaw the commission of North America’s largest public artwork by Brazilian artist Beatriz Milhazes: a sweeping, floor-to-ceiling mural spanning over one hundred feet.

Friedman rejoins Salon 94 following her leadership in launching Stephen Friedman Gallery’s New York space for the London-based gallery, creating a notable curatorial strategy that presented many artists with their first New York solo exhibitions, and paired visual artists with musicians and dancers in a live performance series. She also served as a consultant for LGDR, where she oversaw their inaugural exhibitions with Lisa Brice,

Marilyn Minter and Marina Adams, guiding sales strategy and major institutional acquisitions. Her broader experience includes senior roles at Tina Kim Gallery, James Cohan Gallery, David Zwirner, Paula Cooper Gallery, and Christie’s.
