Lauren Haynes joins Atlanta Contemporary
Lauren brings over 20 years of distinguished experience from some of the country's most respected arts institutions.

ATLANTA, GA.- Lauren Haynes will be Atlanta Contemporary's next Executive Director, beginning March 16, 2026.

Lauren brings over 20 years of distinguished experience from some of the country's most respected arts institutions, including Governors Island Arts, the Queens Museum, Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, and the Studio Museum in Harlem. Her career has been defined by transformative exhibitions, meaningful artist partnerships, and expanding access to contemporary art.

A Return to Atlanta

One of Lauren’s early arts experiences was an undergraduate summer internship at a gallery right here in Atlanta—the experience helped shape her commitment to accessibility and community-driven programming.

Over the past decade she has developed relationships with key Georgia arts institutions, serving on jury panels at the High Museum and the Lyndon House in Athens, speaking at the Atlanta Art Fair, and engaging with the Mildred Thompson House.

“I am deeply honored to return to Atlanta and lead Atlanta Contemporary at this transformative moment,” Lauren shared. “Atlanta Contemporary's dedication to championing artists, fostering creative experimentation, and ensuring that diverse perspectives are represented resonates strongly with my own values and practice.”

What Lauren Brings

Throughout her career, Lauren has:

• Curated acclaimed exhibitions featuring artists including Alma Thomas, Stanley Whitney, Sarah Cain, and Kenny Rivero

• Overseen major art acquisitions by Emma Amos, Sam Gilliam, Amy Sherald, and other significant contemporary artists

• Led the Studio Museum's influential Artist-in-Residence program

• Developed innovative public art programming at Governors Island

• Successfully expanded institutional capacity and community partnerships

Looking Ahead

Under Lauren's leadership, Atlanta Contemporary will focus on expanding our impact through dynamic exhibitions and programs, increasing support for artists at all career stages, and strengthening our role as an accessible, welcoming space for the community.
