Christie's celebrates 40 years in Asia with milestone "Pearls of the Orient" auction
With a combined low estimate of close to HK$60 million, the sale underscores the depth, rarity, and significance of the objects presented.

HONG KONG.- In 2026, Christie's marks its 40th Anniversary in Asia, a milestone that reflects four decades of leadership, innovation, and long‑standing commitment to the region. To commemorate this occasion, Christie's Chinese Ceramics and Works of Art Department meticulously curates a special themed sale, 'Pearls of the Orient – Treasures from Hong Kong Private Collectors', taking place on 30 April during Hong Kong Asian Art Week, featuring extraordinary treasures from several of Hong Kong's most distinguished collections.

Led by the esteemed Dawentang Collection and alongside the exceptional Muwen Tang, Heng Ya Tang and Songde Tang Collections, among others, the sale pays tribute to Hong Kong's visionary collectors whose dedication over the decades has played an essential role in shaping the development of the Chinese art market and Christie's success in the region. Their passion and connoisseurship have elevated global appreciation of Chinese art and set enduring standards for generations to come. With a combined low estimate of close to HK$60 million, the sale underscores the depth, rarity, and significance of the objects presented. This commemorative sale also reflects Christie's continued development as Asia's premier destination for Asian art, as well as a global destination for collectors and connoisseurs.

Kevin Ching, Chairman, Christie's Asia, commented, “Hong Kong has long been home to remarkable scholars, connoisseurs and collectors whose quiet dedication has safeguarded Chinese art for generations. As we celebrate Christie's 40th Anniversary in Asia, it is our honour to present treasures from these distinguished collections. I extend my deepest gratitude to our collectors – their passion continues to elevate the appreciation of Chinese art and reflects the enduring spirit and pride of Hong Kong.”

Chi Fan Tsang, Deputy Chairman, International Director, Chinese Ceramics and Works of Art, Christie's Asia Pacific, added, “For generations, Hong Kong collectors have set the benchmark for excellence, deepening the understanding and legacy of Chinese art. Their curiosity, scholarship and willingness to engage in rigorous dialogue have defined the culture of connoisseurship in this city. From the pioneering collectors of earlier decades to the visionaries behind the Dawentang, Muwen Tang, Heng Ya Tang and Songde Tang Collections, their contributions continue to advance the field. As Christie's enters another chapter in Asia, their contributions remain central to the standards we strive to uphold.”

Sale Highlights – The Dawentang Collection

A leading highlight of the sale, the Dawentang Collection was assembled over many decades by a distinguished connoisseur and former two‑term Chairman of the renowned Min Chiu Society. Through meticulous discernment and scholarly dedication, the Master of Dawentang has formed an exceptional collection of imperial Chinese ceramics distinguished by their quality, provenance, and historical significance. The remarkable works presented from the Dawentang Collection exemplify the Master's enduring commitment to objects of beauty, cultural importance, and lasting significance.
