Burgh House announce Moira Lascelles as new Director of the Grade I listed historic house and museum
Moira Lascelles has previously worked with prestigious organisations including the British Council, Phaidon and London Architecture Festival, and will bring a wealth of experience across contemporary art, architecture and socially engaged practice.

LONDON.- Burgh House announced the appointment of Moira Lascelles as its new Director. Moira Lascelles will take up the position in April 2026, leading the organisation into an exciting new phase that builds on its recent successes and reaffirms its place within London’s vibrant cultural landscape.

Moira Lascelles joins Burgh House from her role as Executive Director and Head of Partnerships at UP Projects, the UK’s leading public art commissioning organisation specialising in socially engaged practice. In this role, she co-directed the organisation and led a wide range of ambitious partnership projects, developing innovative public art strategies and commissions that placed communities at their heart working with some of the UK’s leading and emerging artistic talent.

Spanning contemporary art and architecture, Lascelles’s career includes senior roles at The Architecture Foundation, where she was Deputy Director, as well as Consultant Curator for the London Festival of Architecture. Her wider experience includes positions at the British Council, Phaidon and CABE. She is currently Chair of Trustees of Metroland Cultures and an Arts Emergency Mentor.

With a passion for widening access to arts and culture, and a deep belief in the power of creativity to drive social change, Moira Lascelles is committed to shaping a dynamic and inclusive future for Burgh House. Her experience in fostering meaningful community engagement and delivering ambitious cultural programming will play a vital role in establishing Burgh House as both a local hub and a significant player in London’s cultural ecosystem.

Moira Lascelles comments, “Burgh House is one of London’s hidden gems that brings heritage, culture and community together under one roof and I am delighted to be joining the team as Director this Spring. I look forward to drawing on my experience and long-standing commitment to widening access to art and culture to the organisation, as well as championing a high-quality, ambitious programme for visitors, both existing and new, to enjoy. I believe museums and community spaces have an important role to play in a society where real-world experiences and connections matter more than ever and am excited to make Burgh House a place where people feel inspired, engaged and most importantly, welcome.”

Peter Kohl, Chair of the Board of Trustees said, “The Trustees are thrilled to welcome Moira Lascelles as the new Director of Burgh House. Moira’s passion for the arts, her vision for cultural engagement, and her extensive experience in arts, heritage and community outreach make her ideally placed to help shape the future direction of Burgh House.”

Burgh House is currently presenting Amongst the Trees and Terraces: Donald Towner (1903–1985), a major exhibition celebrating the internationally-recognised Hampstead-based painter. The exhibition brings together works spanning the interwar and postwar years, capturing both the beauty of the British landscape and the transformation of London in the aftermath of war. Through scenes of Hampstead and beyond, Towner’s work reflects on themes of identity, place, and national change—resonating strongly with contemporary audiences.

This exhibition highlights Burgh House’s commitment to delivering thoughtful, high-quality programming that connects local heritage with wider culturally significant narratives. Under Moira’s leadership, such programming is set to expand further, with an emphasis on accessibility, community collaboration, and innovative approaches to storytelling through art and heritage.

Additionally, alongside Amongst the Trees and Terraces: Donald Towner, Burgh House are exhibiting a collections showcase titled Hampstead Vanished and Imagined. While exploring the lost landscapes and their change over time, this showcase reflects how change can be managed to ensure an area retains its sense of place, whilst modernising at the same time. To celebrate the exhibition, Burgh House have collaborated on a new exciting project with New End school and the Heath and Hampstead Society on the redevelopment of New End Hospital in the 1990s.
