John Lennon's Complete Handwritten Beatles Manuscript Lyrics to the 1964 Hit "If I Fell" from A Hard Day's Night -- the "Holy Grail" of Music Collecting.

DALLAS, TX.- Heritage Auctions announced its next blockbuster Hollywood & Entertainment Signature® Auction, a five-day event taking place July 13-17 showcasing some of the most important artifacts ever offered from the worlds of film, television, music and popular culture. Spanning nearly a century of entertainment history, many of these treasures are appearing at auction for the first time.

Among the sale’s headline attractions is one of the most significant surviving artifacts from the Star Wars saga: Mark Hamill’s screen-used Luke Skywalker lightsaber, complete with the severed hand effects rig used during the climactic Cloud City duel with Darth Vader in Star Wars: Episode V — The Empire Strikes Back. Preserved for decades and never before publicly offered, the lightsaber carries a pre-auction estimate beginning at $1,000,000.

Also featured is what many collectors regard as the ultimate Beatles artifact: John Lennon’s complete handwritten manuscript lyrics for the 1964 classic “If I Fell.” Written on the reverse of an unfolded Valentine’s Day card while Lennon traveled to New York for The Beatles’ historic first appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show, the manuscript captures a pivotal moment in music history. It’s pictured below and bidding begins at $500,000.

From the Golden Age of Hollywood comes Margaret Hamilton’s signature Wicked Witch of the West hat from The Wizard of Oz. One of the most recognizable costume pieces in cinema history, the hat is expected to attract bidding beginning at $100,000.

Additional highlights include:

• Elsa Lanchester’s screen-matched necklace worn as Mary Shelley in Universal Pictures’ Bride of Frankenstein ($30,000+)

• Gene Wilder’s photo-matched “Willy Wonka” top hat from Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory, from the collection of director Mel Stuart ($50,000+)

• Paul Newman’s photo-matched Charlestown Chiefs hockey jersey from Slap Shot ($15,000+)

• The screen-matched hero “Otto the Autopilot” prop from Airplane! from the collection of director Jerry Zucker ($25,000+)

• Zucker’s iconic jukebox featured in the unforgettable pottery-wheel scene from Ghost ($20,000+)

Collectors will also have a rare opportunity to acquire both of the hero rugs from The Big Lebowski, including the legendary “desecrated” rug that “really tied the room together” and the replacement rug stolen from Jeffrey Lebowski’s mansion. Both are being offered publicly for the first time, each opening at $15,000.

Rounding out the sale is the most comprehensive collection of hoverboards from Back to the Future Part II ever assembled for auction. The collection includes examples of every hoverboard design seen in the film, highlighted by Marty McFly’s screen-matched pink Mattel Hoverboard used during the movie’s iconic chase sequence. Bidding begins at $100,000.

“This auction represents the full spectrum of entertainment history, from Hollywood’s Golden Age to modern blockbuster cinema and the most influential moments in popular music,” says Joe Maddalena, Executive Vice-President, Heritage Auctions. “These are the kinds of artifacts that define generations of storytelling and rarely become available to collectors.”
