NEW YORK.- Max Lang announces Mrzyk & Moriceau: A View To a Kill, featuring new works and a large-scale installation that will incorporate pieces by Andy Warhol, Tom Wesselmann, Jean-Michel Basquiat and Keith Haring, among others. The installation will cover both floors of the gallery and will be accompanied by more than 140 individual ink-on-paper drawings by the artists. Both the installation and individual drawings will take the viewer on a rollercoaster ride of the absurd, simultaneously producing both laughter and shock, while calling into question the practice and product of art making, and the experience of viewing art itself.

Mrzyk & Moriceau use a darkly humorous visual vocabulary in their work, from pistol-wielding penguins to knife-toting dogs. The title of the show, A View to a Kill, alludes to an element of anxiety; a sinister quality paralleled by the work itself. The juxtapositions, innuendoes, absurdity and mordant wit of these drawings are meant to create a dialogue with the other artworks, whether it be the repetitious, often sexually charged imagery of Pop Art, or the impressionistic quality of a Nineteenth century landscape painting.

Mrzyk & Moriceau, who have created installations for drawing shows at museums around the world—including the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, PS1, the Musée d’Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris and the Aldrich Museum of Contemporary Art—are returning to New York for the first time since their residency at PS1 in 2004.

Petra Mrzyk was born in 1973 in Nuremberg, Germany and Jean-François Moriceau was born in 1974 in Saint-Nazaire, France. The two met while attending art school in the mid-1990s. Beyond their several solo exhibitions and numerous group exhibitions around the world, the artists have also produced a short animated video for the French pop band, Air. A View to a Kill is Mrzyk & Moriceau’s first exhibition at Max Lang. A catalogue will be available.
