ALICANTE, SPAIN.- Museo Arqueologico Provincial de Alicante presents for the first time in Spain a selection of the best pieces of the Assyrian civilization preserved by the British Museum, in an exhibition titled Art and Empire - Assyrian Treasures from the British Museum, on view through September 30, 2007. The exhibition, which has traveled across three continents, unveils the most important finds of British archaeology in the north of Mesopotamia since the middle of the 19th century.
Over 200 pieces are on dislay, originating from the great Assyrian palaces of the 9th and 7th centuries AD. The exhibits give a complete demonstration of the most important aspects of the material culture of the people, who dominated the Near East for many centuries.
