NEW YORK.-Sundaram Tagore Gallery is pleased to present Trans-Chromatics, an exhibition of paintings by artist Vittorio Matino. Vittorio Matino is a Milan based artist whose career spans half of a century, and straddles the boundary between the abstract and the figurative. His work is recognized for long dynamic vertical strokes of vibrant color and their ability to exhibit chromatic tension resulting in the illusion of expanding and receding space. The exhibition begins April 12th and continues through May 12th. An opening reception will be held at Sundaram Tagore Gallery April 12th from 6:30 to 8:30PM.

Vittorio Matino was born in Tirana, Albania and raised in Venice. After graduating from Bologna College of Art, Matino moved to Milan where he began to develop a painting vocabulary that reflected the transparent colors of the Venetian School. Trips to the United States and Paris in the mid 1970’s helped deepen Matino’s knowledge of the color Field school, the Post Impressionsts and other visionaries of Modern Art’s avante garde including Piet Mondrian, Mark Rothko, and Barnett Newman. For the past decade, Matino has explored the color tradition of India, while continuing to develop a capacity for transforming the limits of our perception of color. Vittorio Matino paints within the western abstract tradition using color and the physical act of painting with a spirituality akin to the aesthetics of eastern civilization. Matino has had numerous solo exhibitions in Padua; Milan; Krefeld, Germany; Paris; and New York; and his work is in the collections of Cassa di Risparmio, Piacenza, Italy and the Enimont Corporation, New York.
