NEW YORK, NY.- Bienvenu Steinberg & C is presenting Between the Lines, an exhibition featuring Johanna Calle, Jonathan Callan, Stefana McClure, Glenda León, Ivan Lam, Sean Micka, Nobuhira Narumi, Ed Ruscha, Analia Saban, and Adam Winner on view through August 29, 2026. Between the Lines is an exhibition with no underlining—it hints, suggests, and infers. The ten included artists playfully dig into an unparalleled present, relieving us through their archaeological gestures. A summer outing that could leave you ice cold.

Johanna Calle (b. 1965) lives and works in Bogotá, Colombia. Her work draws on a range of archival and deciphering techniques, often associated with everyday life, to address the violence of recent Colombian history. Calle has participated in major international exhibitions including the Sydney Biennale (2016), the São Paulo Biennial (2014), and the Istanbul Biennial (2015). She will have a solo exhibition at Le Bal, Paris, opening in January 2027. Jonathan Callan (b. 1961, Manchester, England) lives and works in London. Working primarily with books and found materials, Callan investigates materiality, perception, and the hidden structures of everyday objects through sculpture and installation. His work has been exhibited at the British Museum, London; Villa Datris Foundation, France; and the Currier Museum of Art, New Hampshire. His work is included in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art, New York; the British Museum, London; the High Museum of Art, Atlanta; and the Princeton University Art Museum.

Stefana McClure (b. 1959, Lisburn, Northern Ireland) lives and works in New York. She transforms printed text into abstract compositions that explore language, translation, memory, and perception. Her work has been exhibited internationally, including at Columbia University, New York (2025); Museum Wilhelm Morgner, Soest, Germany (2023); the Indianapolis Museum of Art, Indianapolis (2021); the Bronx Museum of the Arts, New York (2019); and CENTRALE for Contemporary Art, Brussels (2018). Her work is held in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art, New York; Museum of Fine Arts, Houston; Yale University Art Gallery, New Haven; and Harvard Art Museums, Cambridge.

Glenda León (b. 1976, Havana, Cuba) lives and works between Madrid and Havana. Her multidisciplinary practice explores the intersections of the visible and invisible, sound and silence, and the natural and the manufactured through installation, sculpture, watercolor, and video. She received a degree in Art History from the University of Havana and graduated from the Academy of Media Arts Cologne, Germany. Recent solo exhibitions include MARCO de Vigo, Spain (2021) and MEIAC, Badajoz, Spain (2020–21). Museo Amparo, Puebla (2023); Fundació Miró Mallorca (2023); Aichi Triennale (2022); Galleria Nazionale d'Arte Moderna e Contemporanea, Rome (2022); and the Museum of Modern Art, New York (2019). Her work is held in the collections of Centre Pompidou, Paris; Pérez Art Museum Miami; Hammer Museum, Los Angeles; Museum of Fine Arts, Houston; and the Art Gallery of Ontario, Toronto.

Ivan Lam (b. 1975) is one of Malaysia's leading contemporary artists, known for his experimental use of materials. Over the past two decades, he has established himself as a major figure in Southeast Asian contemporary art. He represented Malaysia at the 58th Venice Biennale (2019) and was the first Malaysian artist to mount a solo project at Art Basel Hong Kong (2013). Recent exhibitions include Blind Side at Wei-Ling Contemporary, Kuala Lumpur (2024–25) and FOCUS 2025, Singapore (2025).

Sean Micka (b. 1979) lives and works in Brooklyn, New York. His multidisciplinary practice spans painting, drawing, writing, and artists' books, exploring the relationships between image, text, photography, and memory. He received a BFA from the Art Institute of Boston at Lesley University in 2004 and twice participated in the Whitney Museum of American Art Independent Study Program (2012–13 and 2013–14). He has held residencies at Abrons Arts Center AIRspace and Pioneer Works. Recent exhibitions include Another Man's Treasure, Mariposa, Aspen, Colorado (2025); Bienvenu Steinberg & C, Governors Island, New York (2023); Book Out of Stock, North Orange, Montclair, New Jersey (2022); Josée Bienvenu Gallery, New York (2019); and Three Star Books, Paris (2018).

Nobuhira Narumi (b. 1968) lives and works in Tokyo. He investigates the complex relationship between humans and dogs, using the perspective of a dog to examine human behavior, empathy, and social interaction. He received an MFA from Tokyo University of the Arts in 1992. Recent exhibitions include Hara Museum Arc, Japan (2023, 2020), Meinblau, Berlin (2014), and the Georg Kolbe Museum, Berlin (2009).

Ed Ruscha (b. 1937, Omaha, Nebraska) is one of the defining figures of postwar American art. He studied at the Chouinard Art Institute in Los Angeles from 1956 to 1960, where he developed the text- and image-based practice that has profoundly influenced contemporary art. Since the early 1960s, his work has been the subject of major museum exhibitions at institutions including the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York; Centre Pompidou, Paris; and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. His work is represented in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art, New York; Tate, London; Centre Pompidou, Paris; the Art Institute of Chicago; and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.

Analia Saban (b. 1980, Buenos Aires, Argentina) lives and works in Los Angeles. Saban dissects and reconfigures traditional notions of painting, often using the medium of paint as the subject itself. Blurring the lines between painting and sculpture, imagery and objecthood, her work frequently includes plays on art historical references and traditions. She received a BFA from Loyola University, New Orleans, in 2001 and an MFA from the University of California, Los Angeles, in 2005, and was a Getty Research Institute Artist-in-Residence (2015–16). Upcoming solo museum exhibitions include the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and the Mildred Lane Kemper Art Museum (2027). Previous solo museum exhibitions include the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth (2019), Qiao Space, Shanghai (2017), and the Blaffer Art Museum, Houston (2016). Her work is held in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art, New York; the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; the National Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C.; LACMA; the Hammer Museum; and Centre Pompidou, Paris.

Adam Winner (b. 1979, Bridgeport, Connecticut) lives and works in Red Bank, New Jersey. Winner's paintings merge abstraction with references to architecture, landscape, and perception through layered geometric compositions. He received a BFA from Syracuse University in 2001. His work has been exhibited at Galerie Forsblom, Helsinki (2020, 2017, 2016); Private View Gallery, Turin (2018); Josée Bienvenu Gallery, New York (2017, 2016); and Hearst Galleries, New York (2016).
