FAIRFIELD, CONN.- The Fairfield University Art Museum (FUAM) is among the first museums in the nation to earn certification from the Association of Academic Museums and Galleries (AAMG), recognizing the museum's commitment to excellence as an academic museum serving Fairfield University and the broader community.

The certification complements the museum's accreditation by the American Alliance of Museums and affirms the Museum’s dedication to nationally recognized standards in governance, collections stewardship, education, accessibility, strategic planning, and community engagement.

The Association of Academic Museums and Galleries is the leading professional organization dedicated to academic museums, galleries, and collections in higher education. Through professional development, advocacy, and the promotion of best practices, AAMG supports institutions that advance teaching, research, and public engagement through the arts.

By earning AAMG certification, the Fairfield University Art Museum joins a distinguished network of academic museums committed to professional excellence. AAMG member institutions include the Yale University Art Gallery, Harvard Art Museums, Princeton University Art Museum, the Georgia Museum of Art at the University of Georgia, the Jule Collins Smith Museum of Fine Art at Auburn University, the University of Mississippi Museum, and the Lowe Art Museum at the University of Miami.

As Fairfield University's art museum, FUAM partners with faculty across disciplines to bring original works of art into the classroom through object-based learning. Customized class visits, gallery discussions, and interdisciplinary collaborations help students strengthen visual literacy, critical thinking, and analytical skills through direct engagement with works of art. Faculty interested in collection research, class visits, customized learning experiences or object-based teaching opportunities are encouraged to contact the Museum.

Fall 2026 at the Museum will feature two new special exhibitions: Hieroglyphs to Hype: The Afterlife of Ancient Egypt in the Bellarmine Hall Galleries (September 18-December 12) and James Welling: Cento in the Walsh Gallery (September 25-December 12).
