A prominent ancestor, Qing scholar Luo Dian, headed Yuelu Academy for 27 years and championed jingshi zhiyong (practical, evidence-based learning serving real society), a legacy cited in The Cambridge History of Late Ch'ing China. The Dunhuang series exemplifies her approach. Instead of relying solely on historical records, she conducted on-site research across Mogao Caves and surrounding heritage zones, producing her signature piece Dunhuang Now and collaborative visual works that reconstruct Dunhuang's cultural landscape through modern music. The work won honors at the Dunhuang Cultural Competition and received official promotion from Dunhuang municipal and Gansu provincial cultural authorities, who later invited her to deliver New Year cultural presentations introducing her research-driven music to broad audiences.
She applied identical fieldwork workflows in Shanxi.
