NEW YORK, NY.- On September 24, 2026, the New Museum will debut a new site-specific commission by Ho Tzu Nyen (b. 1976, Singapore; lives and works in Singapore) whose work across film, video, performance, and multimedia installation investigates the plurality of cultural identities across Southeast Asia.

Presented in partnership with Hyundai Motor Company as part of the Hyundai Translocal Series: Ho Tzu Nyen, P for Power: Up Down (2026) will premiere at the New Museum, followed later in October by P for Power: Double Life of P (2026) at the Ulsan Art Museum in Ulsan, Korea. Together, the two iterations explore the multiple meanings of power, from political and technological systems to more fluid notions of endurance, transformation, and agency.

Rooted in numerous Eastern and Western cultural references, Ho’s works blend mythical narratives and historical facts to mobilize different understandings of history, its writing, and its transmission. Ho has held solo exhibitions at LUMA Arles (2025); Mudam Luxembourg (2025); Hessel Museum of Art, Annandale-on-Hudson (2024); Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo (2024); Singapore Art Museum (2023); and Hammer Museum, Los Angeles (2022). His works are held in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; Tate Modern, London; Guggenheim, New York and Abu Dhabi; M+ Museum, Hong Kong; National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Seoul; Mori Art Museum, Tokyo; and Singapore Art Museum, among others. He has been appointed Artistic Director of the 16th Gwangju Biennale opening in September 2026.





P for Power: Up Down (2026) will be installed in the New Museum’s OMA-designed, glass-front elevators looking onto the Bowery. When an elevator button is activated, a life-size child protagonist will appear on screen and deliver a short text in the form of a mantra, question, riddle, or note reflecting on the nature of power.

Presented in parallel with the artist’s commission for Ulsan Art Museum, Hyundai Translocal Series: Ho Tzu Nyen will connect New York and Ulsan through a shared conceptual framework while responding to the distinct architectural and cultural contexts of each site.

Ho Tzu Nyen’s new commission is presented in partnership with Hyundai Motor Company as part of the Hyundai Translocal Series, an initiative fostering collaboration among art institutions in Korea and across the globe. Building on the New Museum’s long history of exchange with peers around the world, Ho Tzu Nyen will be the first artist shown as part of a multi-year collaboration with the Ulsan Art Museum.

Hyundai Translocal Series: Ho Tzu Nyen is curated by Massimiliano Gioni, Toby Devan Lewis Director, and Gary Carrion-Murayari, Kraus Family Senior Curator, with Taeyi Kim, Curatorial Fellow. The Ulsan Art Museum iteration of the partnership is curated by Director Changsub Lim and Curator Kyungah Kweon.
