MYRTLE BEACH, SC.- Sixty-five artists from around the region will vie for top honors in the Tenth Annual Waccamaw Arts & Crafts Guild Juried Exhibition, opening Thursday, April 26, at the Franklin G. Burroughs-Simeon B. Chapin Art Museum. A reception open to the public will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. April 26, with awards presentations at 6:00. The exhibit continues through May 23, with gallery hours from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sundays.
With 71 two-dimensional and three-dimensional works in a range of media from photography to batik, as well as such traditional media as painting and sculpture, the show is a perennially popular event with locals and visitors.
Judge and juror for the competition is Stephen Nevitt, chairman of the Department of Art at Columbia (SC) College. He will provide a descriptive tour of the exhibit at Thursdays reception, offering insights on how the works were selected for inclusion in the exhibit and for prizes.
Cash awards to be given, totaling over $2,500, include the Rebecca R. Bryan Best in Show Award, as well as First, Second and Third Place awards, and 10 Honorable Mentions. This years event is dedicated to the memory of Jane Bentley Charles, a longtime supporter of the Art Museum, who died April 4.
Admission to the Museum is free but donations are welcome. For further information, call 843-238-2510 or visit www.myrtlebeachartmuseum.org.
