BASEL.-The 38th edition of Art Basel takes place in the museum-rich city of Basel (Switzerland) from June 13 through 17, 2007. The world's leading art show, it is the annual meeting place of the international art world. 300 galleries from across the globe have been selected to participate. They will be showing works by over 2,000 artists of the 20th and 21st centuries. The «Art Unlimited» hall, presenting 60 large-scale projects, and «Art Basel Conversations», featuring internationally known panelists, are among the highlights of the show. Making its debut this year is the new «Art on Stage» platform, in association with the Theater Basel. It will be inaugurated by Thai artist Rirkrit Tiravanija with his performance piece «An Untitled Concert». The world-renowned jeweler Cartier is joining Art Basel as an Associate Sponsor. Cartier will be showcasing its commitment to the Paris-based Fondation Cartier pour l'art contemporain at the international art show. Art Basel and the artnet internet portal will also be cooperating for the first time. The participating galleries will be accessible on artnet for two months after the close of the international art show. The local museums have noteworthy exhibitions (Robert Gober, Jasper Johns, Brice Marden, Edvard Munch, the Situationists, etc.) and a broad range of events in store. And this year Art Basel, the Venice Biennale, the documenta in Kassel, and Skulpturenprojekte Münster will be cooperating officially for the first time.

The 38th edition of Art Basel kicks off on June 12 with a vernissage for invited guests. The international art show is open to the general public from June 13 through 17. The annual reunion of the international art world regularly attracts over 50,000 artists, collectors, gallerists, curators, and art enthusiasts. They come to see the largest, most rigorously juried overview of what the international art market has to offer and to meet the stars and insiders of the international art scene. Covered by over 2,000 media representatives,

Art Basel bases its outstanding reputation on the high quality and unmatched diversity of works on display, and on the international audiences it attracts.

The Biennale in Venice, documenta 12 in Kassel, and Skulpturenprojekte in Münster will all be opening within a two-week period. Art Basel is ideally positioned between the openings of these three exhibitions. For the first time, these four major events will be cooperating officially. A special joint website (www.grandtour2007.com) has been created where visitors to the four events can book flights, train tickets, and hotels.
