AMILLY.- Éléonore False is turning the upper gallery of Les Tanneries into a shifting landscape of shadows, fragments and luminous forms with Sœur de nuit, an immersive exhibition opening October 17, 2026 and continuing through February 28, 2027.

The exhibition forms the second half of a two-part project begun with Sœur de jour at the Centre de Création Contemporaine Olivier Debré in Tours. Rather than simply transferring works from one institution to another, False uses the sharply different architecture of Les Tanneries - a former industrial site converted into a contemporary art center - to reconsider how her images, sculptures and textiles inhabit space.

At the center of the installation is a large-scale scenographic work also titled Sœur de nuit. Black sequined tulle stretches through the gallery, moving across walls and architectural volumes and dividing the space into a sequence of rooms, thresholds and shifting viewpoints. Fragmented human bodies, animals, botanical forms and illuminated sculptures appear throughout the installation, creating an environment that alternates between intimacy and estrangement.

Five new glass sculptures from False's Tulipes series are presented alongside two monumental textile works made specifically for the exhibition. Other pieces date from as early as 2013, including works borrowed from public and private collections. Several were previously shown in Tours but have been reconfigured for Amilly, allowing their meanings and visual relationships to change within a new architectural setting.

False's practice frequently begins with existing photographs found in books, archives and printed reproductions. She cuts, isolates and recombines these images before translating them into collage, textile, ceramic and sculptural forms. The image consequently becomes something physical: an object that can be folded, suspended, enlarged, fragmented or made to occupy the viewer's space.

That process of cutting and recombination is central to Sœur de nuit. The exhibition uses transparency, dramatic changes of scale and contrasts between darkness and illumination to move between dream and reality, familiarity and uncertainty. The title, borrowed from a poem by Austrian writer Ingeborg Bachmann, reinforces a series of paired ideas - day and night, conscious and unconscious, presence and absence, sacred and profane.

False has described the two exhibitions as "sisters," related without being identical. At Les Tanneries, the industrial character of the building becomes part of that relationship, allowing works initially conceived for the purpose-built galleries of the CCC OD to take on different spatial and psychological qualities.

Born in 1987, False studied at the École des Beaux-Arts de Paris and trained in textile design at Olivier-de-Serres. Her work has been presented at institutions including Frac Sud, the Palais des Beaux-Arts de Paris, MRAC Occitanie, MAC VAL and Museo Experimental El Eco in Mexico City. Her first monograph, Ensembles, was published by Empire Books in 2024, and in 2025 she was selected for the CNAP's national print commission.

Sœur de nuit also arrives as Les Tanneries celebrates its tenth anniversary. The contemporary art center occupies a former tannery complex renovated by architect Bruno Gaudin and opened in its present form in 2016. The anniversary season brings together a broader program of exhibitions and projects exploring the relationship between contemporary art, architecture and the history of the site.
