Headlined by The Pink Petal, an exquisite 8.41-carat fancy vivid purple-pink/VS1 Potential Type IIa diamond ring, the sale is further distinguished by a superb Art Deco Cartier brooch set with a 10.10-carat Burmese no-heat 'pigeon's blood' ruby, and an impressive 100.16-carat Burmese no-heat 'royal blue' sapphire and diamond pendant. Leading the category is a pair of natural pearl and diamond earrings by Van Cleef & Arpels, created in 1957 for the Duchess of Windsor, whose collection with the Duke of Windsor ranks among the most celebrated jewellery collections of the twentieth century. Each earring centres a black or white natural pearl within a surround of pear-shaped and round diamonds, and later formed part of the collection of renowned American designer Calvin Klein.
