DOYLESTOWN, PA.-Families, friends and art lovers of all ages lined up in the Ann and Herman Pavilion of The James A. Michener Art Museum in Doylestown to see the largest volume of works ever exhibited in the Children's Gallery at the annual June Balloon opening reception. Students aged 2 through 18 created works of art participating in the Museum's art classes and the Art on the Move program. Work from Bucks County s youngest artists lined the gallery salon style with over 300 two and three-dimensional works of art.
The opening ceremonies included entertainment by the 4th and 5th grade chorus from Tinicum and Durham-Nockamixon Elementary School in the Palisades School District under the direction of Palisades Music Educator Sally Beck. The rainy day did not deter people young and old as they filled the Childrens Gallery and Silverman Pavilion enthusiastically supporting one of the longest running annual childrens exhibit in the area.
This years June Balloon was dedicated to Gilbert Winner , the Museums Facilities Manager, for his dedication and hard work behind the scenes. He was acknowledged by Dr. Sue Plumb , Director of Education Outreach and Diversity, and Ruth Anderson , Assistant Curator of Education and Interim Childrens Gallery Coordinator. Anderson spoke about Winner, Gilbert finds the possible in the impossible. He finds the do in the undoable. He finds the dreams in the realities.
There is still time to catch this inspiring exhibit, which runs until Sunday, June 24, 2007.
The Childrens Gallery presents June Balloon through the support of Burton and Mindy Cohen, Fred Beans Family of Dealerships, The Marshall Family Charitable Fund and The Sigety Family Foundation. Additional support is provided by the Institute of Museum and Library Services.
The Childrens Gallery is free of charge and open during Museum hours. For more information, contact the Museum at 215-340-9800 or visit www.michenermuseum.org.
