Synthetic Exhibition Around the Contemporary Figure
Stéfan Leclercq, Portrait of Victor, oil on canvas, 50/40 cm, 2007.

BRUSSELS, BELGIUM.-This summer, the Pascal Polar Gallery shows a synthetic exhibition around the contemporary figure. Seven artists exhibit their works. Paintings, photography and sculptures question the human figure in art today.

Max Neumann (German painter, born in 1949) exhibits the enigmatic black figures in large format. Empty visage with a great expression extricate from existential body. Emmanuel Barcilon (French painter, born in 1967) makes a thought over the condition of man and his object in the space. Serge Goldwicht (Belgian painter, born in 1954), with a bruegelian fact, makes his pictures with many personages. Every painting is a cosmology in a singular relation between men, animals and objects. Didier Hagege (French painter, born in 1961) exhibits images of clothes in natural dimension. Clothes without body as tracks of the human presence. Martial Lorcet (French photographer, born in 1959) takes pictures of little plastics figurines on scene. Fictional figures become ghosts in the dark ambiance. Martin Caminiti (Italian sculptor, born in 1959) works with metallic pieces of bicycle or fishing rod. With these pieces, he constructs many animals (cats, coyotes or grasshoppers), abstract spaces with wheels or reconstructs objects. Stéfan Leclercq (Belgian painter, born in 1965) paints only black and white figures for a dramatic ambiance with conflictual lights and shadows in a neo-caravaggist style.

This exhibition, in his diversity and community of thought, rewiews the resurgence of the figure in contemporary art in Europe, today and tomorrow (until 15th September 2007). Pascal Polar Gallery, 108, chaussée de Charleroi, 1060 Brussels, Belgium. http://www.pascalpolar.be
