SAN JOSE, CA.- From August 24 November 2, 2007, the San Jose Institute of Contemporary Art ( ICA ) will showcase Liten Gygr in the gallerys 560 South First Street window. Liten Gygr is part of the ICA s Night Moves installation series, an innovative program that gives the ICA a nighttime presence and animates the downtown cultural landscape by showcasing after-dark programming in the gallerys windows.
Liten Gygr tells the strange and imaginative story of the last giantess and her misadventures with a lovesick god, a mango and a unicorn. Living in her dead grandmothers farm in a forgotten corner of the Midwest , the little giantess is on the verge of extinction. These odd characters inhabit a place of make-believe made frame-by-frame by stop-animation artist, Keturah Cummings. With vibrant color, craftily made environments and inventive use of paper, food and toys, Liten Gygr verges between a sugar-induced fairy tale and a threatening world.
