Susan Jamison: Trust In Me at Irvine Contemporary
Susan Jamison, “Trust in Me” Egg tempera and ink transfer on panel. 36 x 36 inches. 2007.

WASHINGTON, DC.- Irvine Contemporary presents Susan Jamison: Trust In Me, on view September 15 – October 20. Opening reception Saturday, September 15, 6 – 8 pm. Susan Jamison uses the female form to express the collision between the natural and the feminine. In her second solo show at Irvine Contemporary, Jamison uses large-scale egg tempera panels to depict fantasy worlds that are both universal in time and place, as well as harmonious within the organic realm. Jamison combines two classic forms: the portrait, in traditional Renaissance position and the proportionally neutral square, reminiscent of both Audubon illustration and Asian art forms. The paintings evoke a balance between precise and extreme femininity and magic realism. The new exhibition follows Jamison’s traditional style while toying with larger scale and deeper exploration of metaphor.
