Seven Sculptures - Seven Minds

NEW DELHI.- As the new age India marches into the future and achieves many firsts in the world, here is presenting another first from India in the field of Art when Jindal steel and 7 top contemporary sculptors each a master in his field explore art through purity and fusion.

Saptrishis - brings together 7 renowned sculptors, for the first time ever for an art exhibition in Stainless Steel. Conceptualized by Ms. Deepika Jindal and noted curator Dr. Alka Pande, Saptirishi is coming together of seven celebrated artists who have given a new meaning to art by creating magnificent, fascinating and aesthetical pieces of art in stainless steel. Saptrishi an encounter with Stainless Steel , is a celebration of the contemporary and sophisticated Stainless Steel which is the new found medium for Sculptural potential by Jindal Steel and 7 renowned sculptors Sumedh Rajendran, Valsan Koorma Kolleri, NN Rimzon, Shiv Verma, Vivek Vilasini, Karl Antao

When these 7 leading sculptors were invited by the Jindal Group to respond to Stainless steel and explore / discover the possibilities of working with the contemporary material Stainless Steel, the myriad harvest of thoughts and ideas were born that translated into a fusion of old and new, the sacred and the profane and tradition & modernity. Each of these 7 contemporary artists of India takes forward the tradition of Indian aesthetics through their work, vision and engagement with Stainless steel. Thus a new vocabulary is born and vision takes on a new meaning as contemporary sculptor-craftsmen recreate the seven great sages, the Saprishis of yesterday in the avatar of tomorrow.

The thought behind: While the world within the global context is shrinking, more homogenized platforms are appearing. And it is in these geographies, where interfaces with tradition and modernity are dynamic and challenging, that exiting new at productions is actually happening.

According to Hindu mythology, the universe and everything in it was created by Brahma, the vedic Prajapati, Lord of all life. In this act of creation he is believed to have been helped by the Saptrishis or the seven great Sages.

The exhibition also gets its title Saptrishi, as 7 individuals, in their own capacities worked simultaneously being a part of a holistic force that synthesized and integrated their separateness without denying their individual identities, which in turn were equally relevant and valid. A parallel is drawn between mythological Saptrishis and seven modern day artists, both of whom make use of what nature has to offer to create something divine and yet something as human as the sweet taste of water to a thirsty traveler. What emerges is the hybrid of sorts between the traditional and modern in thought and creation.
