CHAMPAIGN, IL.- Krannert Art Museum & Kinkead Pavilion, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, presents Facades. The word facade has different meanings; it is an essential defining characteristic of architecture, yet it becomes negative when used to describe people. The relationships between the outside of a building and its interior, and between someone's public face and the workings of his/her mind, are the subject of this gathering of recent art. Does the exterior of a building or a person's expression reveal or conceal its actual intent or content? Gender roles, racial stereotypes, architectural foils, and assumptions of all kinds come into play in this investigation.
This engaging analysis is the subject of this exhibition of contemporary photo-based work by several international artists, which include Vanessa Beecroft, Michael Wolf, Huang Yan, and Gordon-Matta Clark. A full schedule of events may be viewed on Krannert Art Museums Web site at www.kam.uiuc.edu. On view through December 30, 2007.
