SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA.-Internationally renowned avant-garde artists Christo and Jeanne-Claude, will present a special public lecture about key aspects of their impressive art projects. Christo and Jeanne-Claude's names are synonymous with urban and rural works of art on a vast scale. Christo and Jeanne-Claude’s many celebrated art projects over almost five decades include Wrapped Coast Little Bay, Australia (1968-9), Running fence, California (1972-6), The Pont Neuf Wrapped, Paris (1975-85), Wrapped Reichstag, Berlin (1971-91), and most recently The Gates, Central Park NY (1979-2005).

Bulgarian born American artist Christo and French born American artist Jeanne-Claude have had a long association with Australia and the Art Gallery of New South Wales. The artists first came to Australia in 1969 with the support of John Kaldor, to mount their large scale and controversial work Wrapped Coast Little Bay. Twenty one years later in 1990, the Art Gallery presented a major exhibition of Christo’s and Jeanne-Claude's oeuvre. The Gallery currently holds a number of significant works by the artists in its contemporary art collection.

The artists will discuss Over the river: Project for the Arkansas River, Colorado, and The Mastaba, Project for the United Arab Emirates.

This talk provides a rare opportunity to gain fresh insights into the art of two of the world’s most respected and critically acclaimed artists.

Lecture: Saturday 15 December 2007, 11am – 12.30 pm at Art Gallery of New South Wales, Domain Theatre, Lower Level 1.
